Hello,

I am a singer-songwriter in Kingston, WA, USA. I have a small studio in my home. I am primarily interested in pursuing solutions for a used Big Knob Studio I purchased.  I came across your article on replacing the PS in a Big Knob.  I presume it is a similar process with the Studio as well.  My symptoms are random flucuations in volume at about 10 o'clock on the volume knob and some humming that seems to be from the Knob.  I have taken diagnostic steps by removing possible hum culprits and have isolated the Knob to be the source.

Your article lays it out nicely - so, thanks!

Fortunately, I am quite handy with this electronics stuff though I have no formalized training.  Indeed, the signal chain for my electric guitar is through a tube-based preamp that I built out of a steel box leftover from a furnace project and a leftover transformer from a modification of an Akai M8 reel to reel single-ended amplifier that I turned into a guitar amplifier.
