About This File

Silver-Box Radio module firmware update for Apple CarPlay-AndroidAuto

Use this file to update your HMI-2 SilverBox to HMI-2.5 specs.

Instead of changing the SilverBox, you can update the firmware.

Without a firmware update, you will have issues when receiving phone calls in the vehicle.

Extract the firmware files onto a reputable USB memory stick and place it into the vehicle's USB port, then follow the onscreen instructions.

That file is radio module firmware.

If you upgrade from HMI2 to HMI2.5 usually you have to also upgrade the Silverbox radio module.

Using this radio module firmware you do not need to swap/upgrade the radio module.

This won't activate car play/android auto. Car play/android auto gets activated in the HMI module.

Yes it works on all USA GM cars that uses the HMI v2.5, HMI v2.0 and the satellite radio module.
If the car originally came with the HMI v2.5 this firmware is not needed.

If you have sps you can also use it to get the firmware for your silver box.

Sps will install it to your usb stick and also leave the file in the sps cache folder.

Hi Tory. I have a 2014 Cadillac ELR USA spec and I was able to program and upgrade to the HMI 2.5. I tried to load this radio update package on my USB but the car does not recognize this at all. I was able to upgrade my HMI 2.5 via USB but this package does not get recognized. Any tips? Thanks

Im not sure of what could be the issue. See if you can use sps to upgrade your radio’s firmware.

if you have Techline access then you can make your own upgrade usb , but bro if you will program radio you will get everything from latest files and usb upgrade will not required, either upgrade radio from sps direct or make usb from sps, Good Luck.

Well, that was not the case with European USB update for Opel/Vauxhall - SPS had some newer files for SilverBox, even after USB update was done.
Obviously can't tell if the same is true for US spec modules. So, your mileage may vary.

Hey Troy!,

Boy, finding you was God sent! I've been procrastinating on updating/ upgrading my wife's Rado and HMI because everyone want's to charge at least $1k American dollars.

My question; We have a 2015 Tahoe LTZ, it has the HMI 2.0, we literally have everything except what these newer GM vehicles have. Will this file upgrade my radio (w/XM radio) box and my HMI? or only my radio and need a different file for my 2.0 HMI? If so, which file will that be? And will I need anything other than a thumb drive and PC/laptop?

Thank you in advance and all for being a awesome human! 🫡

hello troy. Will this update fix the problem of the voice button(for Siri) on the steering wheel? (problem: When the button is pressed, it gives the warning "Bluetooth conversation is not available" and Siri does not work) So, does this update also activate the keys when using Apple Carplay?
